IAB is accredited by ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International), NCCT (National Center for Curriculum and Textbook Development), and WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges).
For the 2009-2010 school year, IAB will offer Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. Our first senior class will graduate in June of 2010.
In grades K-4, the maximum class size is 16. In grade 5, we accept 18 students per class. In grades 6-12, class size may be up to 20.
The current teacher/student ratio is 7:1.
Our teachers come from a variety of countries, with the majority from the United States, Canada, China, and the Philippines.
The amount of time students spend on homework varies by grade level and also from student to student. As a general rule, students in grades 1-2 can expect about 30 minutes of homework per night, grades 3-4 can expect 60 minutes, and those in grade 5 can expect 90 minutes. Middle school and high school students should expect more than 90 minutes of homework per night and should learn to schedule their time well.
In the classroom, teachers use a variety of assessment methods, including daily work, observation, homework, essays, projects, and tests. At the high school level, semester exams are given and counted as a percentage of the semester grade.
Yes, we offer ESL support in Kindergarten through grade 8. The kindergarten students are in a full-immersion English program. The other students are pulled out for extra ESL supports, as needed.
We allow no more than 40% of the students in each grade level to be classified as ESL.
Yes, we offer Chinese classes at every grade level. Each year, our Chinese teachers assess the students and divide them into Chinese classes by level, from beginner to advanced. Students enrolled in ESL do not take Chinese.
AP stands for Advanced Placement and includes courses in a variety of subjects. Each course prepares students for the AP exam in May. Students who achieve high scores (4 or 5) on the AP exam can earn advanced standing at university. Currently, IAB offers AP exams in 10 subject areas. AP courses are available to strong students in 11th and 12th grades.
University admissions officers like to see that students are taking a very rigorous academic program in high school. For American and Canadian universities and colleges, students who take AP courses are considered excellent candidates for admission and are granted advanced standing in university. In Australia, Britain, and Europe, 3 or more AP courses are required for university admissions, but advanced standing is usually not granted.
Tuition includes textbooks, instructional materials, art supplies, and annual Enrichment Week events.
In addition to tuition, the school charges all students a one-time application fee and an annual capital levy. There is an ESL Program fee for those students enrolled in ESL. School uniforms must be purchased by the families. (link to uniform page) Bus services and school lunches are optional, but both require additional fees. Some after-school activities are offered on our campus by outside providers, and they charge their own fees.
