Character Program

At IAB we are concerned with more than just a child's academic ability and progress.  Our Character Education program is designed to help students grow in character by understanding the definition of each character trait and the benefits of growing in each trait.

We focus on seven character traits each year.  Around the school and in classrooms, students can read about the character trait of the month.  Teachers address the character traits in their classrooms as well as during teachable moments that arise.  Weekly assemblies also serve to further explain and reinforce the importance of each character trait.  Students are encouraged to grow in the character trait and demonstrate this trait in their interactions at school and home.  At the end of the month, character awards are given to students who have either best exemplified or who have grown in that character trait.

In the classrooms and at home, students have been known to comment,

I'm showing ‘Perseverance' because I'm not giving up.

'Diligence' means working hard.

We are learning about ‘Cooperation' at school.

The character traits we have studied so far have included:  Honesty, Compassion & Caring, Responsibility, Respect, Generosity, Self-Control, Perseverance, Cooperation, Thankfulness, Leadership, Forgiveness, Courage, Obedience, Acceptance, Friendship, Diligence, Stewardship, Integrity, and Thoroughness.
